2019 is here, and chances are, you have been thinking about some ways to improve yourself in the new year! I am a big fan of “goals”, not necessarily “resolutions”. Before the start of each year I set personal, and business goals in hopes to make improvements moving forward!

How to Succeed in 2019

1. Do some research

Before you dive into any goal, you should have a broad amount of knowledge about your subject. The fact is, the more prepared you are, the more likely you are to succeed. Find out about what it takes to reach your goal, who can help you along the way, and what are some possible pitfalls. The more you know, the better.

2. Set clear/concise goals, and write them down

You need to define your goals, make them realistic, and write them down. If you don’t take this initiative you are almost 100% likely to fail. Trust me, you will not reach your goal if you don’t write them down and review them regularly, so if you read this whole blog and ignore this important step, prepare to fail!

3. Go public with it

Let your friends and family know what you are up to! If you let the world know your goals, you will have an entire new layer of accountability, and its been shown that certain people are very likely to succeed when their credibility is left to chance! If this is you, I suggest using this technique.

4. Reassess your goals regularly

Even when you write your goals down, you sometimes don’t reach them, but hopefully you achieve in the process. If you find yourself missing a goal, its time to reassess and perhaps rewrite the goal so it is more achievable.

5. Reward your effort

I am a big believer that reward should follow any major achievement, and that reward should be planned out as you are writing that specific goal. When I used to fight, I would always have a small vacation of some kind planned after, so there was a light at the end of the tunnel. This reward has always kept me focused because I knew something sweet was waiting on the other side! If you do use this tactic, make sure the reward is something that you would really miss if you were to fail!
