Recently I embarked on a popular fitness challenge called 75 Hard. In doing the challenge I was required to commit to a diet plan.

I decided to choose Intermittent Fasting(IF) as my approach largely because of the positive effects IF has been shown to have on inflammation.

Although I’m not finished with the challenge, I’ve already lost 10 pounds and thought I would share some of the reasons IF has been a success for me!

IF is simple! These are the most popular methods:

  • The 16/8 method: Also called the Leangains protocol, it involves skipping breakfast and restricting your daily eating period to 8 hours, such as 1–9 p.m. Then you fast for 16 hours in between.

  • Eat-Stop-Eat: This involves fasting for 24 hours, once or twice a week, for example by not eating from dinner one day until dinner the next day.

  • The 5:2 diet: With this method, you consume only 500–600 calories on two nonconsecutive days of the week, but eat normally the other 5 days.I choose 16 hours of fasting/8 hours of food consumption.

Intermittent Fasting has been a big reason for my 10 pounds of weight loss! I highly recommend it for its effectiveness, and because the method has been proven to have real health benefits.

For 75 Hard I choose 16:8 daily fasting. The most visible reason fasting worked for me was that I cut back on night time snacking.
For a lot of us nighttime snacking is the Achilles heal of the weight loss process. It’s so hard to stay out of the refrigerator when we are bored and this is when I typically consume the most sugar.
Therefore eliminating night time snacking cutback my sugar consumption significantly! Yahoo!

The simplicity of IF was a big contributor in my weight loss as well! I’ve been able to follow the plan when traveling, and when life gets chaotic and busy.

I wasn’t required to pre-cook meals, swallow a pill or restrict certain foods, although you can’t just eat anything you want.

I mentioned earlier that IF can have a positive impact on inflammation. In my case IF has certainly has lowered my inflammation.

As a result my body has been less achy which has allowed me to workout more frequently and with higher intensity.

Aside from seeing great results on the scale IF has made me feel amazing! Eating less sugar, and lowering inflammation has been a game changer for me and I highly recommend you give IF a try!
